Stop Smoking May 31st

Today May 31 declared as World No Tobbaco Day for educating the ill-effects of Smoking. Let us have a look on what is smoking and how to stop smoking.

What's in cigarettes?

Cigarettes contain disgusting things that you would never think about putting in your body. For example, cigarettes contain tar, carbon monoxide and chemicals like DDT, arsenic and formaldehyde (a gas used to preserve dead animals).
The tobacco in cigarettes also contains nicotine--the drug that makes smoking addictive. All of these things are bad for your body. Nicotine raises your risk of heart attack and stroke. Tar and carbon monoxide cause serious breathing problems. And you know tobacco smoke causes cancer.

Steps to make quitting easier:

Pick a stop date. Choose a date 2 to 4 weeks away so you can get ready to quit. If possible, choose a time when things in your life will change, like when you're about to start a break from school. Or just pick a time when you don't expect any extra stress at school, work or home. For example, quit after final exams, not during them.

Make a list of the reasons why you want to quit. Keep the list on hand so you can look at it when you have a nicotine craving.

Keep track of where, when and why you smoke. You may want to make notes for a week or so to know ahead of time when and why you will crave a cigarette.

Plan what you'll do instead of smoking (see list above for ideas). You may also want to plan what you'll say to people who pressure you to smoke.Throw away all of your tobacco. Clean out your room if you have smoked there.

Throw away your ashtrays and lighters--anything that you connect with your smoking habit.

Tell your friends that you're quitting. Ask them not to pressure you about smoking. Find other things to do with them besides smoking.

When your stop date arrives, Stop. Plan little rewards for yourself for each tobacco-free day, week or month. For example, buy yourself a new shirt or ask a friend to see a movie with you. Will I gain weight when I quit? Some people gain a few pounds. Other people lose weight. The main reason some people gain weight is because they eat more food as a substitute for smoking. You can avoid gaining weight by watching how much you eat, staying busy and working out.

How will I feel when I quit? You may feel edgy and irritable. You also may get angry or upset faster, have trouble concentrating and feel hungrier than usual. You may have headaches and cough more at first (while your lungs are clearing out). All of these can be symptoms of withdrawal from nicotine.

Keep in mind that the worst symptoms will be over in a few days. However, you may still have cravings for tobacco. Those cravings have less to do with nicotine addiction and more to do with the habit of smoking. What about nicotine gum or nicotine patches? These products may help you if you feel like you can't quit on your own or you have serious withdrawal symptoms. But don't use the gum or patch without talking to your doctor first. These products were not designed for teens and could make you sick if you use them the wrong way.

You may need to follow special instructions.

What if I can't quit? You can quit. Most people try to quit more than once before they succeed. So don't give up if you slip. Just don't go overboard and buy a whole pack of cigarettes. Instead, think about why you want to quit. Think about what happened to make you slip. Figure out how you'll handle that situation differently next time.

Then recommit yourself to quitting.

You can do it!

Todays story- AN OLD TREE

An Old Tree by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown

Once upon a time there was a leafy tree in a field. Leaves grew densely on the tall branches. The roots were deeply into the ground. The tree was the most remarkable among the rest.
The tree then became the home for some birds. They built their nests and they lived on his branches. The birds made holes on him, and they hatched their eggs within the greatness of the tree. The tree felt so delighted because he was accompanied as he walked through his long lasting days.
People were grateful for the presence of the tree. They often came over and sheltered under him. Under his branches, they sat down and opened their picnic baskets. “This tree is very useful,” that’s what the people said everytime they went home from shelter. The tree was very proud hearing those compliments.
However, time went on. The tree was beginning to be sick. His leaves and twigs were falling, then his body became thin and pale. The greatness he used to have was fading away. Birds felt reluctant to build their nests there. No one would come to sit under the tree to shelter anymore.
The tree wept, “Oh God, why is it so hard for me? I need friends. Now no one would come close to me. Why do you take all the glory I used to have?” The tree cried loudly, so it echoed throughout the forest. “Why wouldn’t you cut me down, so I don’t have to bear this suffering?” The tree kept on crying, and his tears were running down his dry body.
Seasons came and went, but his condition had not changed. The tree was still feeling lonely. His branches became drier and drier. Every night the tree wept and cried, until the morning broke.
“Cheep...chirp....cheep” Ah, what was that noise? Oh, it’s a little baby bird who has just pipped from the egg. The old tree woke up from his daydream.
“Cheep...chirp...cheep”, the noise became louder and louder. There was another baby bird. Not long after that, the tree became noisy because of the birth of new baby birds. One...two...three...and four baby birds have been born to this world. “Ah, He has answered my prayers,” exclaimed the old tree.
The day after, there were many birds flying to the old tree. They were going to build new nests. The dry branches have turned out to attract their attention to nest there. The birds felt warmer to stay inside the dry branches instead of their place before. The number of birds was increasing and there were more kinds of them. “Wow, now my days are brighter with their presence here”, murmured the old tree gladly.
The old tree was back to cheer again. And when he looked down, his heart was flowing with joy. There was a new little tree growing near his roots. The new tree seemed to smile at him. The tears of the old tree has grown a little tree who would continue his devotion to nature.
Dear friends, that’s the way it is. Is there any lesson that we could take from the story? God always has secret plans for us. The Almighty God will always gives answers to our questions. Eventhough it is not always easy to guess what the resolution is, be certain that the Omniscient God knows what’s best for us.
When there are times He sends temptation for us, in other times He gives us His overflowing blessings. The test He gives us isn’t something that can’t be overcome. When God gave the temptation to the old tree, actually He DELAYED in giving His glory. God didn’t choose to cut the old tree down since He kept some secrets. God was testing his patience.
So, dear friends, be sure, whatever temptation we are facing is a part of the chain of glory He is preparing for us. Don’t give up, and don’t be discouraged. God is always there beside patient people.

where are we heading

The paradox of our time in history is that we havetaller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less;we buy more but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families; moreconveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, butless sense; more knowledge, but less judgement; moreexperts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, spend too recklessly, laugh toolittle, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate toooften. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; We've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but havetrouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we'vesplit the atom, but not our prejudice.

We write more, but learn less; we plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait; we have higherincomes, but, lower morals.

We build more computers to hold more information toproduce more copies than ever, but have lesscommunication; We've become long on quantity, butshort on quality.

These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce;of fancier houses, but broken homes. These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one nightstands, overweightbodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.

Where are we heading ....?

todays Joke

DADDY! HOW WAS I BORN?"

Junior asks his dad,His dad, who is a software engineer sighs and replies,"Ah, my son, I guess one day you would have to find out anyway!"

"Well, I saw your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on MSN. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your mom and we met at a cyber-cafe.

We sneaked into a secluded room, where your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neitherone of us had used a firewall, but it was too late to hit the delete button."

"Six weeks later your mom sent me an instant messagesaying that her operating system was showing signs of unauthorized program activity from a self extracting file which had implanted in her BIOS.

Then nine months later a little Pop-Up appeared and said:You've Got Male'!"

Right decision

Mr. Akio Morita is the co-founder of Sony Corporation and an unbelievably brilliant man. The destiny of Sony, just like any individual's is the result of a series of decisions. In his book, Made in Japan, Morita discloses that one of the toughest and most important decisions he ever made was to turn down an offer from Bulova Corporation to purchase 100,000 of his breakthrough transistor radios - at a time when his company was not even moving 10,000 units a month. The amount of money they offered was enormous and was ten times what his company was worth at the time, yet after deep consideration Morita rejected the deal.
Why? Simply because Bulova wanted to put their own name on the radio.
He realized that while in the short term saying yes would give his company a huge jump, he would be building Bulova's name instead of Sony's. The Bulova executives could not believe he would turn down their offer. He told them, “Fifty years from now, my company's name will be as big as yours and I know that the radio we’ve created is going to help us develop that name”.
Of course, all of Morita's partners thought that he was crazy .How was he able to create this sense of certainty that enabled him to turn down such an enticing and profitable offer? He vividly imagined the future of his company, and created references where none existed. He directed his focus and envisioned his goals with clarity, and then blocked it up with absolute and active faith.
Today Sony Corporation is not only a leader in the electronics industry, generating over $70billion a year, but has also diversified to industries as far reaching as film making and music and is renowned for its quality around the World.

Remember, don't drive into the past using your rear view mirror as guide. You have to learn from your past, not live in it - focus on the things that empower you.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge.

Teachings for Life

15 Laws of Life….-from Swami Vivekananda

What You Need to Keep in Mind
1. Love Is The Law Of Life: All love is expansion, all selfishness is contraction. Love is therefore the only law of life. He who loves lives, he who is selfish is dying. Therefore, love for love's sake, because it is law of life, just as you breathe to live.

2. It's Your Outlook That Matters: It is our own mental attitude, which makes the world what it is for us. Our thoughts make things beautiful, our thoughts make things ugly. The whole world is in our own minds. Learn to see things in the proper light.

3. Life is Beautiful: First, believe in this world - that there is meaning behind everything. Everything in the world is good, is holy and beautiful. If you see something evil, think that you do not understand it in the right light. Throw the burden on yourselves!

4. It's The Way You Feel: Feel like Christ and you will be a Christ; feel like Buddha and you will be a Buddha. It is feeling that is the life, the strength, the vitality, without which no amount of intellectual activity can reach God.

5. Set Yourself Free: The moment I have realised God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him - that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free.

6. Don't Play The Blame Game: Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.

7. Help Others: If money helps a man to do good to others, it is of some value; but if not, it is simply a mass of evil, and the sooner it is got rid of, the better.

8. Uphold Your Ideals: Our duty is to encourage every one in his struggle to live up to his own highest idea, and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the Truth.

9. Listen To Your Soul: You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.

10. Be Yourself: The greatest religion is to be true to your own nature. Have faith in yourselves!

11. Nothing Is Impossible: Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin - to say that you are weak, or others are weak.

12. You Have The Power: All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.

13. Learn Everyday: The goal of mankind is knowledge... now this knowledge is inherent in man. No knowledge comes from outside: it is all inside. What we say a man 'knows', should, in strict psychological language, be what he 'discovers' or 'unveils'; what man 'learns' is really what he discovers by taking the cover off his own soul, which is a mine of infinite knowledge.

14. Be Truthful: Everything can be sacrificed for truth, but truth cannot be sacrificed for anything.

15. Think Different: All differences in this world are of degree, and not of kind, because oneness is the secret of everything.

Strategy

The Strategy of Kenny with the Dead Donkey....!!!

A city boy, Kenny, moved to the country and bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.

The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died last night." Kenny replied: "Well then, just give me my money back." The farmer said: "Can't do that. I went and spent it already." Kenny said: "OK then, just unload the donkey." The farmer asked: "What you goanna to do with him?" Kenny: "I'm going to raffle him off." (Note: To raffle is to sell a thing by lottery - draw lot -! to a group of people each paying the same amount for a ticket) Farmer: "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!" Kenny: "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead." A month later the farmer met up with Kenny and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?" Kenny: "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $998.00." Farmer: "Didn't anyone complain?" Kenny: "Just the guy who won. So I gave him back his two dollars."

Kenny grew up and eventually became the CEO of the American Energy Company : Enron

The Bill- to ponder

Ever heard the story of the giant ship engine that failed? The ship's owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine. Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a youngster. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.

Two of the ship's owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed! A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.

"What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!"

So they wrote the old man a note saying, "Please send us an itemized bill."

The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer ........................ $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap ........................... $ 9998.00

Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort in your life makes all the difference…

great spirit

Long after the crowd had left and the cameras had moved, a lone runner entered the stadium to complete the 26-mile-long marathon in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Injured earlier in the race during a fall, he stumbled along, more than an hour after the others had finished. Hurling himself to the finish line, John Stephen Akhwari of Tanzania finished dead last. But before you judge him as a loser, take careful heed of the words he uttered when asked why he did not quit earlier when he had been injured:

'My country did not send me 7,000 miles to start the race. They sent me 7,000 miles to finish it'.

No matter how far you have run, always finish the race!

Parable of the Pencil

PARABLE OF THE PENCIL

The pencil maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. There are 5 things you need to know, he told the pencil, before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.

ONE: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand.

TWO: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil.

THREE: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

FOUR: The most important part of you will always be what's inside.

AND FIVE: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark.

No matter what the condition, you must continue to write. The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.
Now replacing the place of the pencil with you; always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.

ONE: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.

TWO: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.

THREE: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

Comment:- This beautify parable helps us to ponder over the hidden meaning inside.

todays art

The pencil drawings of Jesus Christ is really amazing. The innocence of the baby and the compassionate love of the lord is reflecting in the art.

unconditional love

I once had a friend who grew to be very close to me. Once when we were sitting at the edge of a swimming pool, she filled the palm of her hand with a little water and held it before me, and said this: You see this water carefully contained on my hand? It symbolizes Love. As long as you keep your hand caringly open and allow it to remain there, it will always be there. However, if you attempt to close your fingers around it and try to posses it, it will spill through the first cracks it finds. This is the greatest mistake that people do when they meet love... They try to posses it, they demand, they expect... and just like the water spilling out of your hand, Love will retrieve from you. For love is meant to be free, you can not change its nature. If you have people you love, allow them to be free beings.

Give and don't expect. Advise, but don't order. Ask, but never demand. It might sound simple, but it is a lesson that may take a lifetime to truly practice. It is the secret to true Love.

To truly practice it, you must sincerely feel no expectations from those who you love, and yet an unconditional caring.

welcoming INDIAN MONSOON

India's southwest monsoon rains, the country's economic lifeline, are expected to hit the Kerala coast on May 30, two days ahead of schedule, the monsoon in India is a pleasant experience, particulary in western India, the arrival of monsoon is fabulous to watch. Here I wish to recount my experience of Monsoon in Mumbai.

After stucking Kerala, monsoon normally cover Mumbai around end of June. But little patches of clouds starts rolling from Bay of Bengal at least 4 or 5 days prior to the actual onset. A layman can easily understood some system is brewing in the sea.

Suddently on the day of onset, the cloud becomes thicker, darker and murkier and it may look like a thick dark sheet of umbrella is going to cover the city and as the cloud cover goes, rain starts to pour, in mumbai as they say, when it rains, it pours!!!

Even after a terrible downpour, people and system will be unfazed and we could see people continue to perform their daily activities without any botheration to the rain, but things may go out of hand only if the rain is abnormal.

Watching the clouds, the movement of the clouds, the colour of the clouds and the way the cloud cover spread during the monsoon is a delight. India is awaiting for the next monsoon, 2006 the annual life line which feeds to millions.

Also the train travel from Trivandrum to Mumai during the mid monsoon season via Konkan railway route may be heavenly and delight to watch and the experience is beyond description.

Wet us hope and pray for a bountiful monsoon 2006!!! I wish to bring out the pre-monsoon feelings from some of the borrowed images.

Truly great

The Incredible India advertisement is truely inspiring, it reflects the contrast and rich tradition, colours, diversity of India. Here is one example of diversity - desert on the north India- Rajasthan and abundance of water in the south, Kerala - A travel from south to North will see the diversity in its fullness.

affectionate love

I look up
as a tear rolls slowlydown
my cheekI think about better days
and wonder if I'll feel that way again
you look at mewith those eyes I know so well
always serious, so deep and insightful
as though you're always in control
But not today not now
Now you look so scared
like for once you don't have the answer
I gaze at you
looking deep into those hazel eyes
Hoping to understand
why you've said those things you did
I wonder for a moment
if this is all a dream
if I shall wake in the morning
and be relieved
you look at me
with a confusion I have never seen
slowly pull me towards you
and wipe the tears from my cheek
I Love Walking In Rain Because Nobody Can See Me Crying!!!

14. If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done.
15. Everything can be filed under "Miscellaneous".
16. No matter how much you do, you never do enough.
17. You can do any amount of work provided it isn't the work you are supposed to be doing.
18. In order to get a promotion, you need not necessarily know your job.
19. In order to get a promotion, you only need to pretend that you know your job.

amazing Illusion!

what is True Love

If you love some one because you think that he or she is really gorgeous ....then it's not love .. it's "Infatuation"

If you love some one because you think that you shouldn't leave him because others think that you shouldn't ... then it's not love.. it's "Compromise"

If you love some one because you have been kissed by him ... then it's not love.. it's "Inferiority complex"

If you love some one because you cannot leave him thinking that it would hurt his feelings .. then it's not love .. it's "Charity"

If you love some one because you share every thing with him ... then it's not love... it's "Friendship"

BUT...
If you feel the pain of the other person more than him even when he is stable and you cry for him ... that's "LOVE"

If you get attracted to other people but stay with him without any regrets... that's "LOVE"

If you let him go knowing that he has to go but he doesn't want to ... that's "LOVE"
