The old man shuffled slowly into the restaurant.

With head tilted, and shoulders bent forward, he leaned on his trusty cane with each unhurried step. His tattered cloth jacket, patched trousers, worn out shoes, and warm personality made him stand out from the usual Saturday morning breakfast crowd.

Unforgettable were his pale blue eyes that sparkled like diamonds, large rosy cheeks, and thin lips held in a tight, steady smile. He stopped, turned with his whole body, and winked at a little girl seated by the door. She flashed a big grin right back at him.

A young waitress named Mary watched him shuffle toward a table by the window. Mary ran over to him, and said, "Here, Sir. Let me give you a hand with that chair." Without saying a word, he smiled and nodded a thank you.

She pulled the chair away from the table. Steadying him with one arm, she helped him move in front of the chair, and get comfortably seated. Then she scooted table up close to him, and leaned his cane against the table where he could reach it.

In a soft, clear voice he said, "Thank you, Miss. And bless you for your kind gestures." You're welcome, Sir." She replied. "And my name is Mary. I'll be back in a moment, and if you need anything at all in the mean time, just wave at me!"

After he had finished a hearty meal of pancakes, bacon, and hot lemon tea, Mary brought him the change from his ticket. He left it lay.

She helped him up from his chair, and out from behind the table. She handed him his cane, and walked with him to the front door. Holding the door open for him, she said, "Come back and see us, Sir!"

He turned with his whole body, winked a smile, and nodded a thank you. "You are very kind." he said softly.

When Mary went to clean his table, she almost fainted. Under his plate she found a business card, and a note scribbled on a napkin. Under the napkin was a one hundred dollar bill. The note on the napkin read... Dear Mary, I respect you very much, and you respect yourself too. It shows by the way you treat others. You have found the secret of happiness. Yourkind gestures will shine through those who meet you."

The man she had waited on was the owner of the restaurant where she worked. This was the first time that she, or any of his employees had ever seen him in person.

To Think

Read and think for a moment......As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the factthat these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to theirfront leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, atanytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

I saw a trainer near by and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animalsjust stood there and made no attempt to get away.

"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free."

I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

True......Right???

Lesson:- Don't be chained by false beliefs, eventhough failed in initial attempts you are capable of achieving greatness. So keep-on trying.

Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, OM (August 27, 1910 – September 5, 1997) was an Indian Catholic nun of Albanian origin who founded the Missionaries of Charity. Her work among the poverty-stricken of Kolkata (Calcutta) made her one of the world's most famous people, and it is widely thought that she will be canonized shortly.
Teresa was awarded the Templeton Prize in 1973, the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, and India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna in 1980. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in October 2003, hence she may be properly called Blessed Teresa by Catholics. Public Speaking Tips

I had received this article from email, which I hope may be useful to those who have little fear in Public Speaking. Even the bold and intelligent guys when goes to the podium may search for words on seeing the huge audiance. In board rooms when surrounded by colleagues and boss, thing goes wrong and mind becomes blank in many times, just read this and get benefitted and face the public in confidence!!!!!

Tips for public speaking:-

Ensure your speech will be captivating to your audience as well as worth their time and attention. Videotape your presentation and analyze it. Emphasize your strong points during your presentation.

Be solemn if your topic is serious. Present the desired image to your audience. Appear relaxed, even if you feel nervous. Establish rapport with your audience. If a microphone is available, adjust and adapt your voice accordingly.

Master the use of presentation software such as PowerPoint well before your presentation. Persuade your audience effectively. Speak loudly and clearly. Sound confident. Maintain sincere eye contact with your audience.

If what you have prepared is obviously not getting across to your audience, change your strategy mid-stream if you are well prepared to do so. Allow yourself and your audience a little time to reflect and think.

Keep audience interested throughout your entire presentation. Remember that an interesting speech makes time fly, but a boring speech is always too long to endure even if the presentation time is the same.

Check out the location ahead of time to ensure seating arrangements for audience, whiteboard, blackboard, lighting, location of projection screen, sound system, etc. are suitable for your presentation.

Tell audience ahead of time that you will be giving out an outline of your presentation so that they will not waste time taking unnecessary notes during your presentation.

Here are just a few hints, public speaking tips and techniques to help you develop your skills and become far more effective as a public speaker.

Tell stories

Stories make you a real person not just a deliverer of information.Use personal experiences to bring your material to life.No matter how dry your material is, you can always find a way to humanise it.

Technology

Speak to your audience not your slides.Your slides are there to support you not the other way around.Ideally, slides should be graphics and not words (people read faster than they hear and will be impatient for you to get to the next point).If all the technology on offer fails, it's still you they've come to hear.

Humour

Tell jokes if you're good at telling jokes.If you aren't good, best to leave the jokes behind.There's nothing worse than a punch line that has no punch.Gentle humour is good in place of jokes.Self-deprecation is good, but try not to lay it on too thick.

You can learn to enjoy public speaking and become far more effective at standing in front of a group of people and delivering a potent message.

Honesty

An emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or his children, he decided something different. He called young people in the kingdom together one day.

He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you." The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued.

"I am going to give each one of you a seed today, one very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next emperor!"

One boy name Ling was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the story. She helps him get a pot and planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully. Everyday he would water it watches to see if it had grown.

After about three weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Ling kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks went by. Still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants but Ling didn't have a plant, and he felt like a failure. Six months went by; still nothing in Ling's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed.

Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Ling didn't say anything to his friends, however. He just kept waiting for his seed grow.

A year finally went by and all of the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection.

Ling told his mother that he wasn't going to take an empty pot but his mother said he must be honest about what happened.

Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his mother was right. He took his empty pot to the palace. When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other youths. They were beautiful -- in all shape and sizes.

Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the other kids laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, "Hey nice try." When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the emperor. "Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!"All of the sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified.

"The emperor knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!"When Ling got to the front, the emperor asked his name."My name is Ling," he replied.

All kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to quiet down.He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, "Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!"

Ling couldn't believe it. Ling couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor?
Then the emperor said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds, which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you.

Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!"

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust.
If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.
If you plant humility, you will reap greatness.

Footprints

Footprints- Short Story

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked beach at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that this happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it.
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied,
"My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."


Comment:-
I like this story very much and I used to read it again and again and everytime it gives a sense of solance.

Happy Pongal

Pongal is a popular harvest festival in South India, particularly Tamil Nadu. Named after a sweet rice dish, Pongal starts on January 14 of each year. The celebration lasts for three days. On the first day, Pongal is offered to Bhogi or Indran (the rain gods) for providing rain for the harvest. On the second day, pongal is offered to the Sun God. On the third day, the family's cattle (mattu) is cleaned and dressed up with flowers, bells, and color powder. This is the day to honor the cattle's hard work for plowing the fields.

Dusk:- Like the birds, animals retire themselves man also retires from the hard -dog day. The evening dusk is sort of enigma. The fading light carries with him the days toil. The photograph attached was taken by the crew on board the Columbia
during its last mission, on a cloudless day.
The picture is of Europe and Africa when the sun is setting.
Half of the picture is in night. The bright dots you see are the cities' lights.

The top part of Africa is the Sahara Desert .

Note that the lights are already on in Holland , Paris , and Barcelona,
and that's it's still daylight in Dublin , London , Lisbon , and Madrid .

The sun is still shining on the Strait of Gibraltar . The Mediterranean Sea is
already in darkness.

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean you can see the Azores Islands;
below them to the right are the Madeira Islands ; a bit below are the
Canary Islands; and further South, close to the farthest western point
of Africa , are the Cape Verde Islands.

Note that the Sahara is huge and can be seen clearly both during
day time and night time.

To the left, on top, is Greenland , totally frozen.

RESTRICTED THINKING
First-grade teacher, Ms Neelam (Age 28) was having trouble with one of her students Singh jr. The teacher asked,"Singh Jr. what is your problem?" Singh Jr. answered, "I'm too smart for the first-grade. My sister is in the third-grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the third-grade too!"

Ms Neelam had enough. She took Singh Jr. to the principal's office. While Singh Jr. waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was.

The principal told Ms Neelam he would give the boy a test and if he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the first-grade and behave. She agreed. Singh Jr. was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

Principal: "What is 3 x 3?" Singh Jr.: "9".
Principal: "What is 6 x 6?" Singh Jr.: "36".

And so it went with every question the principal thought a third-grade should know.

The principal looks at Ms Neelam and tells her, "I think Singh Jr. can go to the third-grade." If you don't feel embarrassed please read further...

Ms Neelam says to the principal, "I have some of my own questions.

Can I ask him ?" The principal and Singh Jr. both agree.

Ms Neelam asks, "What does a cow have four of that I have only two of?
Singh Jr., after a moment "Legs."

Ms Neelam: "What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?"
Singh Jr.: "Pockets."

Can you improve your life in one minute?
The answer is yes!

Most of us find it difficult to take time out to relax, to play, to just breathe. We're in such a hurry all the time...but I know we can all find at least one minute to vastly improve our lives!

Give some of these great suggestions a try and see how the quality of your life improves!
Want to make some positive gains in your life? A lot of folks would like to improve their lifestyle, but just can't find the time to take action. If you are already living a busy lifestyle, finding the time to make a positive change CAN pose a seemingly insurmountable problem.

Still ... the highest mountain is scaled only step at a time, and the biggest goal is only accomplished one step at a time. And actually -- it's impossible to take more than one step at a time anyway.

Why not try an approach of focusing on just what you can accomplish in one minute -­ just 60 seconds. That's enough time to at least re-focus on a goal, and plan one small action to move you in your desired direction.

You can actually do quite a bit in only one minute. Here are some ways to use the power of a single minute:

Exercise for One Minute:-No time to go to the gym? OK. Forget about the next 59 minutes, and just focus on the next one minute. Perhaps do a deep breathing exercise, or one minute of push-ups or sit-ups. Or invest in one of those easy-to-use $50 home gym systems, and just do a single exercise for 1 minute. After a while you may expand to two minutes ... and wow, you have just made a 200% jump.

Relax for One:- MinuteJust relax into your chair and suck in a slow deep breath all the way down into your belly. Then open your mouth slightly, and release your breath as slowly as you can. Repeat this for just one minute to refresh your mind with increased oxygen.

Calm Your Mind:- For One MinuteYour mind is a fabulous theater, and contains wonderful visions of your favorite places. Go visit one of those places for one minute. Just relax and clear your mind wherever you may be -- in a plane, waiting in a bank line, or at your desk. Now revisit your favorite place in your mental theatre for one minute. You'll come away feeling refreshed, and a lot calmer and clearer.

Change Your Outlook for One Minute:- You can even experiment going outside your normal self for a minute. Try acting the exact opposite of how you usually act for one minute. If you tend to be introverted, think like an extrovert. If you are an engineer, think like an artist. If you are a man, think like a woman.

Re-Frame a Problem for One Minute:- Choose a problem, then select a different frame of reference to consider it from. Try considering the problem through the eyes of someone you admire. Does the problem look different? Try looking at it with the mind Albert Einstein or Bill Gates or Martha Stewart. Now how does the problem look?

Be Happy for One Minute:- Maybe you are currently overwhelmed with problems and challenges beyond your control. Try finding something to give thanks for, and focus on being grateful. Forget any current or past tragedies or disasters, and allow yourself to be happy for one minute.

You really can achieve wonders in just one minute. And these single minutes can add up to a greatly improved quality of life. Give it a try!

True Love

There was once this guy who is very much in love with his
girl.
This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a gift
to his girl.
Although, at that time he was just a small fry in his
company,
his future doesn't seem too bright, they were very happy

together. Until one day, his girl told him she was going to

aris and will never come back. She also told him that she

cannot visualize any future for the both of them, so they went

their own ways there and then...


Heartbroken, the guy agreed. But when he regained his

confidence, he worked hard day and night, slogging his body and

mind just to make something out of himself.


Finally with all the hard work and the help of friends, this
guy had set up his own company ...

You never fail until you stop trying. One rainy day, while
this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in
the rain walking to some destination.

Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn't
take him long to realize they were his girl's parents.


With a heart in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside
the

couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan. He wanted

them to know that he wasn't the same any more; he had his own

company, car, condo, etc. He made it! What he saw next confused

him, the couple was walking towards a cemetery, and so he got

out of his car and followed...and he saw his girl, a photograph

of her smiling sweetly as ever at him from her tombstone and he

saw his paper cranes right beside her...


Herparents saw him. He asked them why this had happened.
They

explained,she did not leave for France at all. She was ill with

cancer. She had believed that he will make it someday, but she

did not want to be his obstacle... therefore she had chosen to

leave him. Just because someone doesn't love you the way you

want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they

have. She had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes beside

her, because, if the day comes when fate brings him to her

again...he can take some of those back with him...



Once you have loved, you will always love. For what's in
your mind may escape but what's in your heart will remain forever.


The guy just wept...The worst way to miss someone is to be

sitting right beside her knowing you can't have her, see her or

be with her ever again.........hope you understand.

much to you, for you might wake up one morning losing that person who
